HIM 2724 - ICD-10 Coding

In this course, the student studies the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision: Clinical Modification Diagnosis System (ICD-10-CM) and the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision: Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PC to gain fluency with the organization, structure, conventions, and guidelines of the ICD-10 in order to accurately code and sequence diagnoses. The importance of anatomical terminology and general medical terminology in ICD-10 code selection is also explored. The curriculum emphasizes standards of ethical coding, compliance in coding, and maintenance of patient privacy. This is a fast-paced course that requires extensive work outside of the classroom.
