Program: 41100

The Public Safety Management Advanced Technical Certificate provides public safety professionals with the opportunity to develop the academic and practical skills necessary for successful management within the field of public safety. The emphasis of the program is on the development of practical decision-making and problem-solving skills relative to the fields of fire service, law enforcement, emergency management, emergency medical services, and private security.

Earning a certificate can also be a first step toward earning a baccalaureate degree in the field. Certificate credits are directly transferable toward the Public Administration specialization of the BAS in Supervision and Management degree program.

Admission Criteria

Admission to this program requires an associate’s degree or baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited school or college, and at least a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 point scale. Students must meet the requirements for college-level mathematics, reading, and writing. Any deficiencies must be satisfied prior to admission to the program. If the student’s associate’s degree is from a non-regionally accredited institution, but one that is accredited by a body that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, a course-by-course evaluation is done according to Polk State College’s transfer practices and policies.
