Academic Regulations and Student Responsibility

Polk State College is responsible for publishing all rules and regulations regarding a student’s responsibilities while enrolled at the College. Each student is responsible for becoming familiar with these rules and regulations. The material in this Catalog is published to provide information on rules and regulations in effect at the time of publication; however, the College reserves the right to make changes to course offerings, curricula, academic policies, and other rules and regulations at any time. These changes govern currently and formerly enrolled students.

Rules and Procedures

The College’s official policies are in the form of rules and procedures. Rules are enacted by the District Board of Trustees to authorize the College to create or maintain policies; to define terms, conditions, privileges, or limitations; and to align with Florida Statutes. Procedures are Polk State College’s official policies that take precedence over any other written document, including this Catalog. These are annually reviewed and updated by the College’s administration. These are the binding and prevailing policies.

As the College periodically updates policies, each student is urged to read all official notices posted on campus bulletin boards, on related web pages, or sent to the student’s institutional email address. The institutional email address is the College’s official mode of communication to the student. The College also reserves the right to communicate with the student using his or her personal email address on file. The student is responsible to provide a personal email address known only to the student.

Not being aware of duly published rules and regulations is not considered a valid excuse for a student’s failure to comply.

Change of Regulations

Polk State College reserves the right to make changes in regulations, course offerings, curriculum, academic policies, fees, procedures, and other rules affecting students.
