Term Honors
Any student who is taking a full-time load (i.e., 12 or more credit hours) can qualify for the Dean’s List or the President’s List as an academic distinction based on the term’s grade point average (GPA). The student receives an acknowledgment of the accomplishment via the Polk State College email after grades are posted and validated each term. An adjustment can not be made for grade changes that occur after that date; however, a student may request an adjustment to the permanent record by contacting the Assistant Registrar on the Lakeland or Winter Haven Campus.
The Dean’s List includes full-time students who have earned a term GPA of 3.50-3.99. The President’s List includes full-time students who have earned a term GPA of 4.00.
Graduation Honors
Honors are bestowed upon students with qualifying cumulative GPAs when they complete all program requirements and graduate. Graduation honors are as follows:
- Cum Laude Honor: Students graduating with a 3.50-3.74 GPA receive this honor.
- Magna Cum Laude Honor: Students graduating with a 3.75-3.89 GPA receive this honor.
- Summa Cum Laude Honor: Students graduating with a 3.90-4.00 GPA receive this honor.
Graduation Honors are part of the student’s permanent record and appear on the diploma and official transcript. During the commencement ceremony, Graduation Honors are recognized based on the prior term’s GPA; adjustments on the student record are made when all grades are finalized.
Official College clubs and organizations may provide approved regalia for attaining various honors, and these items can be worn at graduation. The regalia is pre-approved by the College Registrar.
