Program: AS-25264

The AS and AAS Computer Network Engineering Technology degree program prepares students for careers as network administrators, network engineers, and network specialists. This program provides a study of the skills necessary to plan, design, implement, and administer computer networks of all sizes. In addition to the traditional Microsoft and Cisco offerings, specializations within the program provide opportunities for students to become proficient in Linux, Network Security, and Wireless Administration and Security. Courses within the program prepare students for industry certification exams offered by Microsoft, Cisco, Novell, CompTIA, and the Security Certified Program, as well as the Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP) certification, and the Convergence Technologies Professional (CTP) certification. As an active member of the networking community, Polk State College is an authorized Cisco Networking Academy and a CWNP Academy, and belongs to CompTIA. Additionally, Polk State College is a Novell Academic Training Partner and a Security Certified Program Partner.

Students who score below the required levels on state-mandated placement tests in writing, reading, and mathematics must enroll in and complete the appropriate college preparatory courses before they enroll in some required program courses.

Completion of Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification is required for entry into this specialized program. Students selecting this track are exempt from CET 1600C Network Fundamentals and CET 1610C Router Technology, but must select one additional elective in consultation with the Program Director.
