Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC)

In compliance with F.S. 1004.0961 and District Board of Trustees Rule 6A-14.0304: Online Courses. Polk State holds the following policies regarding distance education courses taken prior to enrollmentPolk State College recognizes the value of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) option as an alternative mode of learning, especially for developing skills in reading, writing, and mathematics; however, an MOOC cannot be directly transferred to the College for credit-granting purposes. A student seeking credit for an MOOC must contact the institution offering the MOOC to complete the credit requirements at that institution. The credit would then be awarded on that institution’s transcript and transferred to Polk State College for credit-transfer consideration.

Other ways that an MOOC can produce college credit at Polk State are through the American Council on Education (ACE) recommendation for credit, or the MOOC may contribute to Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) credit as one of the components considered in a PLA portfolio.
