SYG 2010 - Social Problems 3 hours Lecture, 3 credit(s) Lower-Division College Credit Prerequisite(s): Acceptable placement examination score or completion of the required college preparatory courses in writing and reading This course provides a general introduction to the sociology of social problems, with analyses of the causes, consequences, and solutions, as well as the interrelationship between problems. The curriculum includes the nature of social problems, and explores issues of diversity, sexuality, drug and alcohol abuse, global conflict, crime and violence, education, family, inequality (poverty, racism, sexism), aging, environment and ecology, population and food, medical care, war, and terrorism.
