HIM 1472 - Medical Terminology for Medical Coding 3 hours Lecture, 3 credits Lower-Division College Credit AA Elective: No This course provides a survey of the use of medical and anatomical terminology including word roots, combining forms, prefixes, and suffixes. Students identify and define terms associated with signs, symptoms, and diseases; inpatient and outpatient procedures; laboratory tests; and pharmacology that are applicable to healthcare documentation. This course emphasizes terminology specific to the International Classification of Disease, 10th Revision: Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM); International Classification of Disease, 10th Revision: Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS); and the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding guidelines to facilitate proper code selection. Students review medical reports and case studies, and identify and apply coding-related terminology.
