EPI 0010 - Foundations of Research-Based Practices in Reading 3 Institutional credit(s), 40 Contact hours Institutional Credit This course provides the pre-professional teacher with a substantive study of language structure and function, as well as tools to aid in cognition of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Further, it provides a study of the integration of reading components associated with learning. Instruction in this module is grounded in scientifically-based reading research as a mechanism to affect instructional practice. This course requires the pre-professional to create a one-week reading lesson plan for shared and guided reading that includes Florida Core Standards, incorporates all five of the major reading components, and includes a language experience approach component for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students.
