CHM 2211C - Organic Chemistry II 4 hours Lecture, 3 hours Lab, 5 credits Lower-Division College Credit Prerequisite(s): CHM 2210C AA Elective: Yes This course is a continuation of Organic Chemistry I (CHM 2210C) and covers the following: preparation and reactions of alcohols, ethers, epoxides, carboxylic acids and their derivatives, amines, and organometallics; aromaticity; benzene chemistry and reactions of substituted benzenes; mass spectrometry, infrared (IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy; and reactions of carbonyl compounds, including reactions at alpha carbons. Experiments apply the techniques of preparation, isolation, purification, and characterization of compounds using multistep synthesis (when appropriate).
