This course provides a comprehensive examination of contemporary artistic practices within the framework of historical movements and technical developments. Students will explore the evolution of various artistic techniques, materials, and technologies from the late 20th century to the present, focusing on how these elements inform and shape artistic expression.

Through critical analysis of significant works from the Western canon in visual art, literature, and performance, we will investigate the interplay between form and content, emphasizing the formal qualities and innovative methods employed by contemporary artists. Topics will include advancements in digital media, the resurgence of traditional techniques, and the impact of interdisciplinary approaches on contemporary practice.

The course will encourage students to engage with primary texts and artworks from the Western canon, facilitating discussions that highlight the craftsmanship and conceptual frameworks behind artistic production. By examining the technical aspects of art in historical context, students will develop a nuanced understanding of contemporary humanities and the ongoing dialogue between past and present artistic practices.
