SCM 3142 - Purchasing and Supply Management 3 hours Lecture, 3 credits Upper-Division College Credit Prerequisite(s): SCM 2140 and BUL 3310 AA Elective: No This course covers purchasing fundamentals (as a supply-chain organizational function), including the structure, roles, and responsibilities. Additionally, the curriculum includes strategic-sourcing, price-analysis, and pricing models; cost-analysis techniques; performance-management aspects; and related trends. Purchasing policies and procedures, legal aspects, ethical practices, contract management processes, and negotiation and conflict-management techniques are reviewed, as well as the strategic roles of corporate social responsibility and sustainability practices. Significant focus is placed on category strategies, supplier selection and evaluation, and supplier-development and supplier-quality management integration. Concepts are interwoven, demonstrating the necessary elements of a world-class supply base that operates within a model of continuous improvement while using effective risk-management strategies across an organization’s supply chain.
