The student is expected to have basic computer competence upon admission. Upon admission, students must provide a copy of their unrestricted RN license and again just prior to completion of the program. Students will also be required to provide evidence of a current Health Care Provider CPR certification, a current TB screening, and an updated immunization record. All RN to BSN students are expected to adhere to the professional standards of conduct set forward in Florida Statute 464: The Nurse Practice Act. Each student is expected to adhere to safe and accepted use of prescribed drugs and avoid the use of illicit substances. Clinical agencies may require documentation of these requirements and may institute additional requirements.
Transfer Student Information
A student who has started an RN-to-BSN Program at another institution may be eligible to transfer to Polk State College. The transcript is reviewed on a course-by-course basis to determine equivalency to Polk State College’s courses.
Course Progression in the RN-to-BSN Program
The RN to BSN curriculum was developed with working nurses in mind, providing a flexible, online format. A student is not required (but is encouraged) to complete all general education and BSN core courses prior to enrolling in BSN courses. NUR 2023 Statistics is highly recommended to be completed prior to beginning the BSN courses, and is a pre-requisite for NUR 4775. Courses are designed to be taken in a lock step format. BSN course sequencing can be obtained from the nursing website or a nursing advisor. The RN to BSN program is designed to be completed in as little as three semesters. All BSN Courses must be completed with a C or better.
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
At the completion of the program, the graduate is expected to:
PLO 1: Discuss the role of the nurse to expand professional identity.
PLO 2: Analyze practice data utilized in care management to impact outcomes for individuals, families, and populations.
PLO 3: Lead interprofessional teams through evidence-based decision making to design care across the life span continuum.
PLO 4: Apply scientific principles to guide interventions for client centered care.
PLO 5: Explore social and environmental factors that influence healthcare policy and practice reforms.
Concurrent Enrollment in the AS and BS in Nursing Degree Programs (V6110)
Any student who is currently enrolled in Polk State’s ASN program with at least a 3.0 GPA, has completed the BSN core requirements and has successfully completed NUR1254c or NUR1051c, may apply to the RN to BSN program as a concurrently enrolled student.
