Drop and Add Periods
Each term offers several different sessions. The length of the class is dependent on the number of weeks in the session. Typically a class offers instruction face-to-face, or pure Internet or hybrid (meaning that the course combines an internet component with face-to-face instruction) using a 15 hours-per-credit-hour schedule. Each session has a Drop period and an Add period which allows students to drop or add classes without academic or financial obligation. These dates differ each term. Please refer to the Academic Calendar to determine the specific dates for each session. Once a class has begun, a student can no longer add it to his or her schedule. The Add period for all online and hybrid classes is 7:00 a.m. on the first day of the class in its session. Traditional face-to-face classes can be added before the first class meets each session. The student must see an advisor to add classes after the session begins. A student may drop down during the drop period to a lower course in a sequence for gateway English and mathematics or developmental courses if the student feels the current course material is too complex. Students must see an advisor to drop down.
A student is allowed to drop a class during the drop period which is seven days from the first day of the class. In classes that do not fit into a traditional session the Drop and Add dates are found in PASSPORT as well as on the student schedule. Athletes, international students, dual-enrolled students, and students on their third attempts of a course may have restrictions during the Drop period. The student is responsible for the outcomes of dropping a class. These outcomes may include financial aid award reductions, extension of the student’s expected completion date, or the inability to re-register. Students should check the Academic Calendar for important term dates and deadlines.
