Communication: Official Communication with Students

Polk State College assigns each credit-seeking student a Polk State College student email account during the admission process. College faculty and staff members send official communications through the assigned institutional email account. Each student must check this email account frequently to obtain critical information and assignments. Note that faculty may also interact through Canvas messaging within the learning management system. The student is responsible for reading all information sent to the Polk State College student email account from the College. The College reserves also the right to communicate student information to the student’s personal email address on record. The student is responsible to ensure the privacy and security of that email address with a password known only to the student.

It is common for a student to receive automated messages or texts from the College concerning schedules, due dates, financial aid disbursements, and other critical issues.  Each student can make a selection upon application to the College regarding the use of this service. If an individual does not want to receive messages by phone, he or she may contact the Admission and Registrar’s Office to change contact options.

An emergency alert system may text and call the student’s phone number listed on the student record. When an alert is received, the student must carefully read the information and respond accordingly. It is critical for each student to keep an up-to-date phone number in the student record. PASSPORT provides an option to update contact and address information.
