The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Supervision and Management Program provides an individual who has an associate’s degree (or the equivalent) the opportunity to further his or her education and advance in a chosen profession. The student builds upon the foundational skills attained through the associate degree program by completing upper-division coursework in management and leadership practices. Upper-level coursework in the BAS Program provides in a concentrated area of study for developing a theoretical and practical understanding of organizational management.
The Healthcare Administration Concentration of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management degree program prepares the student to enter the workforce as a medical or health services manager. In these professions, an individual is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising the delivery of healthcare. As a healthcare administrator, the graduate may serve as a specialist managing specific clinical departments or a generalist managing a facility or system. This specialized managerial work involves a complex array of factors impacting today’s healthcare environment including technology, regulations, accreditation, innovation in treatment and delivery, system finance aspects, and insurance reimbursement.
Admission Criteria
Admission to this program requires an AS or AA degree (or the equivalent) from a regionally accredited school or college, and at least a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0-point scale. The student must meet the requirements for college-level mathematics, reading, and writing. Any deficiencies must be satisfied prior to admission to the bachelor’s degree program. A student with an AAS degree is qualified for admission to the bachelor’s degree program once he or she has met the above-mentioned requirements. Any deficiencies in General Education requirements must be satisfied prior to graduation with a bachelor’s degree. If the student’s associate’s degree is from a non-regionally accredited institution, but is nationally accredited, the degree qualifies for admission, but a course-by-course evaluation is done according to Polk State College’s transfer practices and policies.
A student selecting the Healthcare Administration Concentration must have either an AS degree in a health science discipline, or must have completed the following courses:
