Child Development Early Intervention Certificate

The Child Development Early Intervention Certification Program offers a sequence of courses with coherent and rigorous content that is aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant information needed to prepare for further education and job opportunities in the Education and Training career cluster. It also provides technical-skill proficiency and competency-based applications that contribute to the academic, higher-order reasoning, problem-solving, technical, and occupation-specific skills necessary for related education careers, increasing the general employability of the individual.

The content includes, but is not limited to: child development; early childhood education; the establishment and maintenance of a safe, clean, healthy learning environment; guidance techniques and classroom management; professional communication; identification and reporting of child abuse and neglect; implementation of rules and regulations; nutrition; family interaction; legal and professional responsibilities; and employability skills. The program prepares the individual to assume major caregiving, education, and maintenance responsibilities within a home or center-based program under the supervision of a lead teacher or supervisor.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs):
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is able to:
PLO1: Explain developmental tasks relative to the various stages of development of young children.
PLO2: Plan a developmentally and culturally appropriate program curriculum that is inclusive of activities that facilitate principles and processes of child development to enhance the whole child.
PLO3: Use appropriate guidance and classroom management techniques.
PLO4: Create a system of on-going observation, assessment, and documentation.
PLO5: Design a safe, clean, and healthy learning environment while supporting state and local regulations and accreditation standards to maintain a quality program.
PLO6: Build ongoing communication and alliances with staff, families, programs, and other community resources.
PLO7: Describe major components of a sound business management plan.
PLO8: Execute a commitment to professional and ethical standards by demonstrating leadership and organizational skills, as well as focusing on effective written and oral communication.
PLO9: Assemble appropriate observation techniques with regards to special needs criteria through observation, assessment, and documentation.
PLO10: Design appropriate activities for math and science based on child development milestones.
