This certificate program covers the fundamentals of bookkeeping necessary to pursue a career in an accounts receivable or accounts payable department, a payroll unit, an income tax firm, or a financial services organization. This program is also suitable for an entrepreneur who wants to manage his or her own books. The program provides a study of the theory of double-entry bookkeeping, the processes of journals and ledgers, the preparation of payroll documents, the use of computerized accounting, and the reconciliation of banking statements. Coursework included in this certificate program can be applied toward the Associate of Science in Accounting Technology degree program.
Certain courses in this program require placement at the college level or satisfaction of Developmental Education requirements in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is able to:
PLO 1: Prepare and use financial information about business organizations to support decision making.
PLO 2: Manage business information using appropriate software.
PLO 3: Interpret and explain the relationship between the accounting equation and double-entry bookkeeping record transactions in the appropriate ledger accounts using the double-entry bookkeeping system.
PLO 4: Execute the balance-off of ledger accounts at the end of an accounting period.
PLO 5: Evaluate business and financial information to support internal decision making.
