Computer Systems and Business Analysis, AS

The Associate in Science in Computer Systems and Business Analysis degree program emphasizes business-intelligence tools and information mining to prepare the graduate to work as a liaison among company stakeholders in order to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate changes to business processes, policies, and information systems. Through this program of study, the student analyzes business issues and data challenges, and then applies decision-support and business-intelligence solutions for improving work processes for better business decision making. The student gains skills in the areas of business, application programming, database and system design, and web-based technologies. The program allows the student to analyze problems using logic and analysis tools, code applications into computer language, and build and maintain business-intelligence information systems. 

Certain courses in this program require placement at the college level or satisfaction of developmental education requirements in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs):
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is able to:
PLO 1: Develop and design data-driven reports that communicate and validate business analytics.
PLO 2: Use current business-intelligence hardware and software applications and distinguish how it is used on Windows operating computer system.
PLO 3: Illustrate personal computing skills with productivity software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, database management, and presentation software.
PLO 4: Develop computer programs using a current, industry-standard computer programming language.
PLO 5: Apply standard database functions in the creation of tables, queries, forms, and reports.
PLO 6: Discover concepts related to testing protocols and system-development lifecycles.
PLO 7: Employ business-intelligence tools to improve efficiency in solving business problems.
PLO 8: Apply general business concepts.

Civic Literacy Competency


Pursuant to Rule 6A-10.02413 of the Florida Administrative Code, effective in the Fall 2022 Semester, competency in civic literacy is a requirement for each student receiving an Associate in Science degree. Competency in civic literacy must be demonstrated through one of the two options listed below:

Option 1:

Successful completion of one of the following courses:

   AND

Successful completion of the Florida Civic Literacy Examination with a score of 60% or better.

Option 2:

Completion of one of the following assessments with the score indicated:

  • The Advanced Placement (AP) Exam in U.S. Government and Politics with a score of three or better.
  • The Advanced Placement (AP) Exam in United States History with a score of four or better.
  • The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) American Government Exam with a score of 50 or better.
