The Correctional Probation Officer Crossover to Florida Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Training Certificate Program provides a curriculum of study for individuals who are currently certified as correctional probation officers in the State of Florida, but who want to obtain job-related training for entry-level positions in law enforcement. The curriculum is prescribed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission in accordance with Florida Statutes. This program requires the enrolling individual to be physically and mentally strong, fair-minded, and constantly alert. Additionally, each student must complete CJK 0040 Criminal Justice Firearms as a prerequisite course. 

Upon completion of the program, the student must pass the Florida State Officer Certification Exam before becoming eligible for hire. This certification is required for employment as a law enforcement officer in a local, county, or state law enforcement agency. 

Each program candidate must submit an application to the Kenneth C. Thompson Institute of Public Safety Office for consideration.
