The Correctional Officer Crossover to Florida Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Training Certificate Program provides a curriculum of study for individuals currently employed as correctional officers in local and state agencies, and who want to obtain job-related training for entry-level positions in law enforcement. The curriculum is prescribed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission in accordance with Florida Statutes. This program requires each enrolling individual to be physically and mentally strong, fair-minded, and constantly alert. 

Upon completion of the program, the student must pass the Florida State Officer Certification Exam before receiving provisional certification. This certification is required for employment as a law enforcement officer in a local, county, or state law enforcement agency. 

This program is offered in partnership with the Florida State Department of Corrections and local sheriff’s offices. Each program candidate must submit an application to the Kenneth C. Thompson Institute of Public Safety Office.
