The Associate in Science (AS) in Aviation Maintenance Administration degree program enables an aviation maintenance technician (AMT) to build upon technical certification training with academic skills that enhance communication and management abilities. The completion of this degree prepares the technician for employment in an entry-level position in the aviation maintenance industry or enables the individual to seek promotional opportunities in a maintenance management position.

This Associate in Science degree requires a total of 60 credits. The program consists of 18 credits of General Education courses and an Aviation core of 12 credits. A total of 30 credits are articulated into the program upon successful completion of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airframe and Powerplant Certification.

Certain courses in this program require placement at the college level or satisfaction of Developmental Education requirements in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs):
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is able to:
PLO 1: Appropriately apply basic aviation terminology and history.
PLO 2: Demonstrate fluency and appropriate application regarding aviation operations, practices, limitations, and procedures.
PLO 3: Demonstrate fluency regarding federal, state, and other governmental laws, rules, and policies as they relate to aviation.
PLO 4: Incorporate the fundamentals of flight to elements of aviation maintenance and management.
PLO 5: Incorporate concepts of meteorology to aviation and automation management.
PLO 6: Apply strategies based on aviation safety and human factors, including accident prevention.
PLO 7: Demonstrate the human relations skills necessary for success in supervision.
PLO 8: Demonstrate a practical approach to job management.

Articulation requirements:

Completion of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 14 CFR Part 147: Aviation Maintenance Training Program.
Completion of the FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certification.
Note: The FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate must have been issued no more than three years prior to the date of enrollment.
Completion of AMT 9999 Aviation Maintenance Technician Certification.

Civic Literacy Competency

Pursuant to Rule 6A-10.02413 of the Florida Administrative Code, effective in the Fall 2022 Semester, competency in civic literacy is a requirement for each student receiving an Associate in Science degree. Competency in civic literacy must be demonstrated through one of the two options listed below:

Option 1:

Successful completion of one of the following courses:

AMH 1010 - History of the United States: 1607-1877 (effective in the Fall 2024 Semester)
AMH 1020 - History of the United States: 1877 to the Present
POS 2041 - American National Government

AND

Successful completion of the Florida Civic Literacy Examination with a score of 60% or better.

Option 2:

Completion of one of the following assessments with the score indicated:

The Advanced Placement (AP) Exam in U.S. Government and Politics with a score of three or better.
The Advanced Placement (AP) Exam in United States History with a score of four or better.
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) American Government Exam with a score of 50 or better.
