Child Development Early Intervention Certificate

The Child Development Early Intervention Certificate includes rigorous courses containing relevant information as preparation for further education and job opportunities in the Education and Training career field. It also provides technical-skill proficiency and competency-based applications that contribute to the academic, higher-order reasoning, problem-solving, technical, and occupation-specific skills necessary for education careers, increasing the general employability of the individual.

The content includes, but is not limited to, establishment and maintenance of a safe and healthy learning environment, guidance techniques,  classroom management, professional communication, identification and reporting of child abuse and neglect, trauma-informed care for children, implementation of rules and regulations, nutrition, family interaction, legal and professional responsibilities, and employability skills. The program prepares the individual to assume major caregivingand educational  responsibilities within a home, center-based program, school or community based programs that provide services for young children. 

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs):
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is able to:
PLO 1: Explain developmental tasks relative to the various stages of development of young children. 
PLO 2: Plan a developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum that is inclusive of activities that facilitate principles and processes of child development to enhance the whole child. 
PLO 3: Use appropriate guidance and classroom management techniques. 
PLO 4: Create a system of ongoing observation, assessment, and documentation. 
PLO 5: Design a safe, clean, and healthy learning environment while supporting state and local regulations and accreditation standards to maintain a quality program. 
PLO 6: Describe major components of a sound business management plan. 
PLO 7: Execute a commitment to professional and ethical standards by demonstrating leadership and organizational skills, as well as focusing on effective written and oral communication. 
PLO 8: Demonstrate appropriate observation techniques with regards to special needs criteria through observation, assessment, and documentation. 
PLO 9: Create and expand appropriate activities and basic concepts for math and science based on child development.
