This program prepares the graduate for employment in a managerial position in the hospitality industry, and it can also provide supplemental training for an individual who has been or is currently employed in this field. The sequence of courses provides coherent, in-depth content aligned with the relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare the graduate for further education or an immediate career within various sectors of the Hospitality and Tourism industry. A student enrolled in this program may specialize preparation in Event Planning, Lodging and Resort Management, or Food and Beverage Management by selecting electives that provide deeper study in these areas of the industry.
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs):
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate is able to:
PLO 1: Identify the major sectors of the hospitality industry and discuss their interaction.
PLO 2: Formulate and analyze hospitality industry marketing strategies including targeting, positioning, and assessing consumer behaviors.
PLO 3: Discuss the specialized needs for marketing within the hospitality industry.
PLO 4: Explain how effective communication skills are important to success as a hospitality supervisor and describe personal characteristics that affect communication skills.
PLO 5: Describe the organizational structure of various operations within the hospitality industry.
PLO 6: Identify and use principles of legal and ethical supervision practices.
PLO 7: Describe the various operations and procedures within the hotel and resort sector of the hospitality industry.
PLO 8: Demonstrate the leadership and managerial skills required within a service-oriented industry.
PLO 9: Plan the purchase of food and supplies, and also control associated inventory levels.
PLO 10: Identify risk and safety issues in the hospitality industry.
PLO 11: Demonstrate effective use of information technology skills.
PLO 12: Identify and demonstrate the interpersonal and communication skills relevant to the business environment.
PLO 13: Demonstrate the employability skills required of the hospitality industry.

Civic Literacy Competency
Pursuant to Rule 6A-10.02413 of the Florida Administrative Code, effective in the Fall 2022 Semester, competency in civic literacy is a requirement for each student receiving an Associate in Science degree. Competency in civic literacy must be demonstrated through one of the two options listed below:
Option 1:
Successful completion of one of the following courses:
AND
Successful completion of the Florida Civic Literacy Examination with a score of 60% or better.
Option 2:
Completion of one of the following assessments with the score indicated:
- The Advanced Placement (AP) Exam in U.S. Government and Politics with a score of three or better.
- The Advanced Placement (AP) Exam in United States History with a score of four or better.
- The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) American Government Exam with a score of 50 or better.
