The Computer Programming Specialist Database Certificate prepares the individual for initial employment as a computer programmer specialist or database administrator, or for a career in other specialized areas in the information technology industry. The content includes analyzing business situations to design, develop, and write computer programs with an emphasis on databases. This certificate program contains the core curriculum of the Associate in Science (AS) in Computer Systems and Business Analysis degree program. Credits earned toward this certificate can also be applied to the AS degree.
This certificate’s course sequence provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards; it includes the relevant technical knowledge and skills that are needed to prepare for further education or a career in the Information Technology career cluster. Coursework emphasizes technical-skill proficiency and competency-based application, contributing to the individual’s academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning, problem-solving skills, professional demeanor, general employability, technical ability, and other occupation-specific skills that apply across all areas of the Information Technology career cluster.
The certificate prepares the individual for employment opportunities that require storage, location, and retrieval of specific documents, data, and information; assessment of problems using logic and analysis tools; coding to computer language; and testing, monitoring, debugging, documenting, and maintaining computer programs. The student has the opportunity to work in the Lakeland Campus Technology Lab, which provides a dedicated space and the latest software for practice activities without network barriers.
