This lecture and lab course focuses on basic patient-care skills, safe body mechanics, patient mobility processes, transfers, and wheelchair management. The physical therapist assistant’s role within the professional organizational structure is explored, including ethical and legal aspects, limitations, and the relationship between physical therapist and assistant. This course is intended to provide in-depth exposure to the fundamental clinical skills and appropriate behaviors necessary within the professional treatment setting. The curriculum includes a study of medical terminology related to physical therapy practice, such as common diagnostic procedures, surgeries, laboratory tests, pharmacology, medical orders, reports, and patient-care techniques. Successful completion of this course requires a grade of C or better.
