The Public Safety Management Advanced Technical Certificate provides public safety professionals with the opportunity to develop the academic and practical skills necessary for successful management within the field of public safety. The curriculum emphasizes practical decision-making and problem-solving skills necessary in the fields of fire service, law enforcement, emergency management, emergency medical services, and private security.
Earning a certificate can also be a first step toward earning a baccalaureate degree in the field. Certificate credits are directly transferable toward the Public Administration specialization of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management degree, or they can be applied toward a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree.
Admission Criteria
Admission to this program requires an associate degree or baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited school or college, and at least a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0-point scale. The student must meet the requirements for college-level mathematics, reading, and writing. Any deficiencies must be satisfied prior to admission to the program. If the student’s associate degree is from a non-regionally accredited institution, but one that is accredited by a body that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, a course-by-course evaluation is done according to Polk State College’s transfer practices and policies.
