HIM 2253C - CPT Coding Principles and Reimbursement Methodologies 4 hours Lecture, 4 credits Lower-Division College Credit Prerequisites: HIM 1222C AA Elective: No This course emphasizes the rules and regulations governing outpatient, ambulatory, ancillary, physician, and chargemaster (CDM) coding. Students practice and apply skills for accurate and optimal medical, surgical, anesthesia, radiology, laboratory, and pathology coding. Ambulatory Patient Classifications (APCs), Resource-Based Relative Value Scales (RBRVS), fee schedules, and the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System II and III (HCPCS II and III) are researched. Students investigate and apply coding and billing compliance.
