SYG 2010 - Social Problems 3 hours Lecture, 3 credits Lower-Division College Credit Prerequisites: Placement at the college level or completion or required developmental education courses AA Elective: Yes This course provides a general introduction to the sociology of social problems, with analyses of the causes, consequences, solutions for problems, as well as the interrelationship between problems. The curriculum includes the nature of social problems and explores social issues related to diversity, sexuality, drug and alcohol abuse, global conflict, crime and violence, education, family, inequality (e.g., poverty, racism, and sexism), aging, the environment and ecology, population and food, medical care, war, and terrorism.
This course is also offered in Honors format. For Honors Program sections, Honors Program permission is required.
